Slumberjack Bonnie & Clyde 30 to 40 Degree Sleeping Bag Review

Slumberjack Bonnie & Clyde 30 to 40 Degree Sleeping Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this sleeping bag being a little skeptical at first, once it arrived i set it up. I am 6'2" and weigh about 240lbs., my wife is 5'9" and weighs, well who knows they never tell but i would guess about 120lbs. We also have a 1 year old, all 3 of us fit in very cozy, also the flannel lining is the ultimate. I also had thought the pillows would be kind of shoddy, to my surprise they were not, and flannel lined even makes more comfortable than they already are. Highly recommended to all.

Amazon.com Sleeping Bag Guide
Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.
Goose or No Goose?
The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.
All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.
Bags for All Shapes
Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.
Pad Yourself
No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

This bag is amazing.I searched long and hard for the best synthetic sleeping bag and this is it.I am a huge guy, 6'1 300lbs and though it is a little "snug" for me it keeps me VERY warm on the coldest nights. Many times I unzip the bag so as to not over-heat.In warmer temps I keep it unziped and it works great.SnugPak Softie Elite 5 is what the UK special forces use in cold weather and I can see why.It has great loft and is impregnated with thermo-reflective material to keep your body warmth in and will protect you more from losing heat into the ground.Very easy to wash and dry and is made of great quality materials. It does have a unique baffle system (more than one zipper) to regulate how warm you want to be.If you are looking for a synthetic sleeping bag that will keep you as warm (or even warmer!) than most down bags, this is what you want.I am ordering a second one for my little boy. :)

Uhhh...what can I say. First off, I recieved a Merlin Softie 3 in a Special Forces 1 stuff sack. I dont know whether Im reviewing a special forces bag or a softie 3. Still dont know what to think of that. Maybe thats just the way they roll or some manufacturing error. I dunno. Secondly, I used it in mild temps (40F-50F) and was pretty uncomfortable. Ibought the snugpak fleece liner and that helped but now youre talking $200 for the bag and another $60 for the liner...too expensive to justify keeping. I sent it back. If youre willing to freeze just to have a really really compact bag then go for it. When youre out in the wild or even in your back yard being warm and comfortable is key. Quality sleep is key. Its light, compact and well madebut giving it a 40F comfort rating is stretching it. I wouldnt use this bag below 50F. I wouldnt mind trying one of their heavier bags just to see how they perform.

very happy with this canopy. the only drawback is it really takes 2 people to put it up. if your looking for something portable this is not it, but i use it to cover my hot tub in the summer and i am very happy with the quality. much better then what i saw at sams & lowes & home depot. i dont think it could hold up to a big snow storm, so i will take it down in the fall, but overall it is very sturdy.i would recommend it to others.

I got this motor under recommendation from a family member who is a professional fisherman. I also added a not included copilot, which uses a hand transmitter rather than the wired foot pedal that comes with it.This combination really works well, much better than I expected, as it doesn't hunt a lot to keep on course you set. People I have taken out on my boat have commented what a joy it is to fish with and have been impressed with the overall ease of operation and lack of clutter on the deck. If you are looking to troll for your fish look no further than a Powerdrive V2 with an autopilot and also add on a copilot- you will be happy.

Softie 3 Merlin, Olive Review

Softie 3 Merlin, Olive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Merlin 3 5 years ago and use it for the cool seasons, 40 degrees to 80 degrees. The synthetic material make it too warm for summer and the lightweight make it too light for winter. However, this is the most compact, reasonably priced lightweight mummy bag I have found. It dries well, packs quickly and is highly durable. The stuff sack it came well is also a water proof compression bag.

Several minor complaints: (1) the zipper will stick if you are not conscientious; (2) the bag is rated to 32 degrees Fahrenheit but is not comfortable without being supplemented below 40 degrees; and, (3) while not narrow, the bag is not designed for broad shouldered people.

These aside, I highly recommend the Merlin 3 for temperate hikes and frequent enjoyment as I have on countless long and short forays into the great wild.

The item shipped immediately and was up in my backyard within 3 days of placing the order. The canopy was fairly easy to assemble by myself and met all of my expectations. There were plenty of anchors and bungee cords included and the only thing that would make this product better would be some sort of storage/carrying bag to put all the poles and parts in when not in use. It was perfect for my backyard party. Make sure you get the anchors set as with any structure of this type.

You love the outdoors, but you don't love the bugs. Enter the Kelty Screenhouse, a screened-in mesh tent that covers a picnic table or a seating area so that you can stay bite-free on your weekend camping trip. The Screenhouse, which offers 99 square feet of interior space, offers two large mesh doors and four mesh windows, so you can see out in every direction while enjoying your grilled fish. In addition, the Screenhouse stands up to gusts and bumps from passersby thanks to its DA17 pre-bent aluminum poles. Designed by DAC specifically for tents, the DA17 poles are stiffer, stronger, and lighter than fiberglass poles, with a cost that's only slightly higher. And Kelty knows that zipper pulls can be jingly when the wind is blowing, which is why it integrated noiseless zipper pulls into the Screenhouse design. Other features include NiteIze Figure 9 guyline adjusters, which make it easy to tense the rope and release the tension (no more tying, adjusting, and untying knots); clip-sleeve construction, which helps increase the overall strength of the tent; pull-down shades for people who want a bit of privacy; and taped seams for added durability.

RAVE Sports Bongo Water Bouncer Review

RAVE Sports Bongo Water Bouncer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this swim platform for our home on a lake for our 12 and 8 year old boys.

I unwrapped and inflated the platform in the garage using an air compressor. It comes with couplings for an air pump and vaccuum for inflation, but as I don't have an air pump and access to the vaccuum as a blower was not convenient, I wanted to use the air compressor.

There is not a fitting that works with an air compressor included.I ended up using a fitting I use to blow out the sprinkler system and some duct tape to create a fitting. It worked OK as the raft is only supposed to be inflated to 5 lbs of pressure and for the vast majority of the inflation there was only a pound or two of pressure.

This is when I hit my first glitch.I had no way to measure 5 lbs of pressure. So I inflated it until it seemed tight and then moved it to the lake for launch. In the end I had under inflated it.I sent my boys our for a test run and when they climbed the ladder the tube collapsed excessively.I would say that watching kids use the ladder is the best test of how much pressure to add.Of course this is not practical unless you are in the water, but I figured out I could float itout into 4 feet of water and test it.We had to add air one more time too as after a week of play the tube stretch a little I think.

The anchor is kind of underplayed in the whole description of this product, but it recommends an 80 anchor.I used 6 cement blocks as I felt that that was well over 80 pounds and would sink into the lake bottom enough to guarentee the raft didn't go anywhere.I purchased 30 feet of stainless steel chain to attach the raft to the block.I knew this was excessive, but as I didn't have exact measurements for the depth of the water, I felt I would just cut off the excess. In the end, this was an excellent move. The excess chain made working this much easier.I moved the blocks one at a time into about 11ft of water. This is much more challenging then it sounds as 11ft is a long way down when you repeat it over and over.I am not sure you can move an 80 lb anchor in a boat, so I didn't try, I stacked the blocks by walking on the bottom and bobbing up and down. This look like 30 minutes including rests after every couple of blocks.

Next I hooked an empty laundry jug to one end of the chain so I would be able to get to it from the surface using a stainless steel carabiner. Then I fed the chain thru the blocks and clasped using a stainless steel carabiner.Feeding the chain thru was several trips to the bottom and requires one to be a pretty strong swimmer.I wanted to use something I could quickly clasp and unclasp if I wanted to as this was 11 ft under.

Then I unclasped the laundry jug and reclasped it about 3 ft under water so I had access to the chain from the surface, but the jug was not in the way to attach the platform.I swam the platform out and clasped the chain to it with another stainless steel carabiner. Then I removed the laundry jug.I plan on using the laundry jug in the winter to keep the chain off the bottom so I saved it.

That process took a about 90 min as I had to rest several times from all the swimming.Long story short, there may be better ways to attach the anchor, but to establish a perminent anchor is a task you should think about before hand.I have seen several platforms blow into the neighbors swim area because of inadequate anchors so make sure you use something heavy enough and will sink into the lake bottom.USE:
As far as use, the platform works well with a single person on it.They can jump and lots of stuff. We had a birthday with 12 kids and the platform was a huge problem.First, it collapses in the middle with 3 or more kids on it.They just end up ina big pile in the center.

The only way to sun is to lay near the edge on the tube. The kids dont really get this and try to lay in the middle.I would not consider this a good platform for sunning yourself.

King of the raft, which was the most common game when I was a kid does not work well, though is probably safer then any other raft. The Bongo is VERY HARD to get on.The raft is very tall and the edge is rounded and slippery. So the only way and I mean ONLY WAY on the raft is the ladder.Even then after you are at the top of the ladder, it is a lot of work to get fully onto the raft. There is simple nothing to hang onto. The upside of this is there is nothing to get hurt on either.

Nightmare for poor swimmers. On a normal platform, swimmers come up to the edge and just hang on.Especially while waiting for someone else to use the ladder. On the Bongo, there are 2 hand holds, one on each side. These and the ladder are the only thing to hang onto. The sides are round and slipper and there is no way to hang on them.It is too tall to reach the top.My 8 year old, is an OK swimmer and we worry all the time that he will not find a handle in time. The old son helps him a lot to make sure a handle is accessable and is almost required.I could not recommend this platform for children who can not swim and tread water for a minute or two while they get to a handhold or the ladder.I am considering adding some ropes draped off the sides for additional handholds.Unfortuntely, they could become problems to entangle the kids, so I dont know. The platform should have a handhold on every section really.I am going to add a second ladder as the circumference of a 13" platform is like 40' which is a long way for some to swim in a lake.

SAFETY:
The lack of anything hard on the raft make scrapes, cuts, ... from the platform almost impossible. The safety concerns come in a couple of areas:

Underneath - If someone is bouncing and someone goes underneath, they will literally have someone jumping on their head.As the person is underneath no one can see them if they became injured. There has to be a strictly enforced policy against going underneath.Unfortunately, the kids love the cave underneath.

Few Handholds - There are only 2 handholds and the ladder to hang onto (tho underneath there is also the anchor line).Poor swimmers can tire trying to find a place to hang on.

Collapsing - When the platform is loaded with 3 or more kids, they tend to get hurt being thrown into each other in the middle. These are usually very minor injuries.

Difficult to get on - It takes a lot of work to get on and people tend to have to rest a little while to make it up.

Jumping on people - Seems like this would be a problem, but I think it is no worse then any platform. This platform is taller, so maybe they would hurts someone more, but we did not see this. The energy of bouncing is absorbed by the water so the kids don't really bounce very high and it is far enough to the edge that they don't really jump high and into the water. To jump high they are in the center and don't go high enough to land in the water.SUMMARY:

The kids have a lot of fun bouncing on the Bongo and playing, but have to be watched due to the dangers of going underneath. If your kids are good about following safety rules, this can be a great entertainment in the summer on those hot days.

Rave Sports Bongo Bounce Platform (13-Foot)

Click Here to see more reviews about: RAVE Sports Bongo Water Bouncer

Product Description:
When the sun beats down and the lake's icy cool water beckons, the Bongo water bouncer from Rave Sports answers the call. Quite simply one of the greatest summertime accessories ever, the Bongo water bouncer inflates quickly and anchors easily, created a water-logged playground for kids and adults alike. The Bongo looks like a huge inner tube, but with a trampoline-like surface on the top for lounging or bouncing. The Bongo's soft center is ideal for bouncing fun--simply take a couple of warm-up jumps and then bound gleefully into the water--but is also stiff enough for relaxing on a toasty afternoon. And getting out of the water is just as easy as jumping in thanks to the durable boarding ladder, which includes steps that extend deep into the water, hand holds molded into each step, and boarding assist handles at the top. You can even attach multiple water park attachments to the Bongo, such as small slide and log attachments.

The Bongo water bouncer offers a trampoline-like surface for bouncing or lounging. Although the Bongo is similar to a traditional water trampoline, it also offers a few key differences. First, the Bongo is easy to transport, meaning you can set it up quickly and use it anywhere. If you have a large pickup truck, you can even stow it in the truck bed, although Rave Sports recommends that you don't drag it across the ground. Second, the Bongo doesn't have any metal parts, so you needn't worry about corrosion. Finally, the Bongo can be used on land or water, making it far more flexible than most water trampolines. Like any inflatable product, however, the Bongo tube should not be exposed to rough edges or sharp objects like rocks and sticks.
The Bongo water bouncer comes in three sizes--10, 13, or 15 feet--that accommodates several friends or an entire family. Even better, the bouncer's 1,000-denier polyester, UV-treated PVC material (with heat-welded seams) is extremely durable. In fact, it's the same high-grade material used in many ocean-going inflatables and inflatable military boats. As a result, you can use the Bongo in the ocean and other saltwater locations, as there no metal components aside from the stainless-steel anchor rings. Best of all, the Bongo--which requires a water depth of at least 8 feet--sets up easily. You can use the included two-way hand pump for the 10- or 13-foot Bongo or an industrial inflator/deflator (not included) for the larger 15-foot version. It takes roughly 5 minutes to inflate the Bongo with a high-volume inflator/deflator and 20 minutes with the two-way hand pump. The water bouncer also comes with either a day-use anchor bag (Bongo 10 and 13) that can be filled with sand or rocks or a fixed anchor harness (Bongo 15) on the underside of the tube.
The Bongo carries a lifetime warranty against defects in material or workmanship.

ShelterLogic 10 x 20- Feet New Auto Shelter,Tan Review

ShelterLogic 10 x 20- Feet New Auto Shelter,Tan

I bought this as an early Christmas present for my fiance' that had just bought a new Mustang.#1 the instructions tell you to put the entire frame together and then you have to take each part apart to put the tarp on.#2 Took over 6 hours to put together.2 people working on it for 3 hours and then 4 people working on it for 3 more hours. 4 days after we put it together, we had about 15 minutes of bad wind and pulled the anchors out of the ground and it went tumbling through the yard.#3 When I called to file a claim, they pointed out that in the instructions, it says not to "permanently" use the 15" anchors that were given and that they suggested the 30" anchors that they sold for another $30 which was the rebate amount. After telling them that I had used the 15" anchors "temporarily" like the instructions had said, they argued that it was not covered under the warranty.More than half of the shelter parts were bent including screws, poles and anchors.FYI it is only less than 2 weeks old and we took the entire thing apart and it is already rusting. If there were a way to rate this item less than one star, I would!!!!!!!!!!!!What a piece of junk.

Black Diamond Bipod Bivy Bag Review

Black Diamond Bipod Bivy Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For side sleepers like me, the Bi-Pod Bivy is way too tight in both the hip and shoulder areas. Also, I use the Therma-Rest NeoAir mattress which when fully inflated takes-up three inches in height.

I have reordered and have received the heavier but far more spacious Tri-Pod Bivy. Its size is just right for me.

The quality of both models is excellent.

I have two complaints with both models. First, the zip-up opening is much too small. The opening should have at least one more foot to facilitate entry into the bivy. Second, I don't understand why the outer seams don't come pre-sealed from the factory. Instead you are sent a tube of sealer and a syringe and must seal it yourself.

Product Description:
The Bibler Bipod Bivy is both functional and comfortable. A shock-corded Easton aluminum pole arches over the head and shoulder area to provide a roomy space so you won't feel claustrophobic. A large zippered entry on the Bipod Bivy provides easy access, great ventilation and rolls back to reveal a generously sized, no-see-um net door. You can check out the stars, feel a pleasant breeze on your face - without the local mosquito masquerade joining your party.

Minn Kota Riptide SP Bow-Mount Trolling Motor with CoPilot and Autopilot (55-lb Thrust, 48" Shaft) Review

Minn Kota Riptide SP Bow-Mount Trolling Motor with CoPilot and Autopilot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Good trolling motor, lots of power, handles my 16' fiberglass center console well. I highly recommend getting the Autopilot feature...it was worth the extra $200. It's nice being able to point the motor in one direction and having it go there w/o constant adjustments. Turning around is easy too, just turn the motor 180 degrees and it will bring the stern around by itself; all you have to do is fish!

I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO BUY MY FIRST BURRIS SCOPE AT SUCH A HUGE SAVINGS. I RECEIVED THE SCOPE AS PROMISED AND OPENED THE BOX. THERE WERE SMALL SMUDGES OF SEALANT ON THE SCOPE AND A VERY SMALL STICKER "MADE IN THE PHILLIPINES" I WAS UNDER THE BELIEF THAT BURRIS SCOPES WERE DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED AND ASSEMBLED IN THE USA. THE OPTICS ARE GREAT THOUGH. THE GLASS IS SUPER CLEAR AND SHARP FROM EDGE TO EDGE, ON PAR WITH MY BEST NIKON CAMERA LENSES AND THE RECTILE IS SUPER.

The Fullfield II has but two. These leak paths are sealed with special quad seals rather than low-tech O-rings. Sierra Designs Women's-Solar Flare 5-Degree 600 Fill Down Sleeping Bag Review

Sierra Designs Women's-Solar Flare 5-Degree 600 Fill Down Sleeping Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received the bag and am very happy with it.I bought it for my wife because we're going camping in Yosemite in the spring and it's going to be cold at night.I actually bought the Women's Large for her so that I could use it to when she doesn't go camping with myself and the boys. The bag is constructed very well and has plenty of loft. The shape seems to be more universal than women specific in my opinion. The women's large fits to 5'-11" and I'm 6'-0" and it fit me fine. The interior fabric is very soft for nylon and the outer shell can repel water quite well.I also own a Big Agnes Deep Creek weatherproof bag and the construction of the Sierra Designs is pretty comparable. My Big Agnes bag has 800 fill down while the Solar Flare has 600 Fill down both are good fill in my opinion, you really pay a premium for fill that is over 600. The Solar Flare hood is nice and the full length zipper works better than any bag I have. All of my bags are down filled because I prefer the pillowy loft and the compact size. The color of the Solar Flare is a deep purple with charcoal back.Construction on the bag is top notch and well detailed. This is the last bag she'll ever need.Buy right the first time and you won't need to buy again.

Product Description:
Never fear frosty nights again with the Solar Flare women's-specific three-season sleeping bag. Warm to 5 degrees F, the Solar Flare features 600-fill goose down insulation, a natural renewable insulation that provides a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than other materials. As a result, the bag is not only warm, but also extremely compressible and lightweight. To prevent the fill from getting wet, Sierra added a Drizone waterproof/breathable shell, which allows moisture to escape from the bag while keeping water and dew out. This is a crucial feature for goose down bags, which perform poorly when damp. And thanks to the continuous baffling, the down spreads evenly across your bag to eliminate cold spots. Other features include a draft collar, an ergonomic hood and foot box (the latter with microfleece lining), and tuck stitch construction. The Solar Flare is available in regular and long sizes.
About Women's-Specific Bags
Sierra Designs was the first company to recognize that sleeping bags should be designed differently for women. The average man is 6 feet tall, but the average woman is 5 feet 4 inches tall. In addition, both the body proportions and metabolic rates of men and women vary significantly. In response, Sierra sizes its women's bags smaller so that women are not carrying additional weight and don't have to heat up more air space in a larger bag. Sierra's women's sleeping bags are also designed with narrower shoulders, wider hips, and increased insulation in the torso and foot box. The company's first women's-specific bags, the Calamity Jane and Annie Oakley, were released in 1995.
