Big Agnes Copper Spur UL - 3 Person Tent (Spring 2010) Review

We picked this tent up the day before leaving on an 8-day hiking trip in the Grand Canyon. The tent is about 4-1/2lbs including rainfly and poles... much lighter than our 'reserve' tent which weighed about 8lbs.The tent was easy to set up and of the 7 nights, 4 of them we left the fly off utilizing only the screen top.The large vestibules of the fly are nice for boots and other gear with excellent air circulation. It did not rain on us so I can't speak to the water impermeability, but we did get some very strong winds.Because of the full screen top and air gaps under the fly, the wind was able to blow a bit of dust into the tent.We used the fly in the strong wind as the tent is more 'aerodynamic' with the fly and more tie points are provided on the fly.The only criticism I could possibly come up with is the lightweight floor, but this is expected given the overall light weight of the tent. The manufacturer recommends using the footprint to help protect the floor, but that is 1lb we did not want to carry for 8 days - the floor held up fine given some care (clearing as many rocks as possible from the tent area).Overall we are very pleased with the tent and look forward to future camping trips.

We live in Iceland, and we needed a new family tent. We are 2 adults and 3 children. Living in Iceland we sometimes get bad weather so big indoor space was a must. We do not go camping a lot, maybe 2-3 (2-4 days each) every summer. We bought this tent a year ago and I have just good things to say! A king size air maddrass (180 cm wide) just fits perfectly in the bedroom, so fitting 3 is no problem. The living area is huge! We fitted ones 12 people for dinner in bad weather!!!! It is also great because when the weather is good you can open "doors" in 3 directions!
It takes us about 15-20 minutes to put up, my husband doing most of the work :)
As it is a big tent - it is quite sensitive to wind, so sleeping in very windy weather can be difficult. You also need to have a fairly big grasspot for the tent as it is very big in areal.

Product Description:
The BiFrost Y6 is our roomiest tent with two separate sleeping compartments with room for 3 people in each. The compartments are connected by a "dome" with a diameter of approx. 3 meters. The tent works well for a group of people under one roof that wants a larger space to move around in. The outer tent is made of PU coated polyester and the floor fabric can handle a 3000 mm water column. The inner tent is made of Oxford Polyester can can handle a 7000 mm water column. The tent is equipped with storm guy lines. The tents have privacy windows and a floor that can easily be snapped into place between the sleeping compartments. They come with poles that allow you to riase the door for rain protection or a shady spot outside the tent.

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 Ultra Light Tent: 1-Person 3-Season Review

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 Ultra Light Tent: 1-Person 3-Season

I have been searching for a well-designed, solo tent under 3 pounds for many years. And to replace my REI Roadster, which I like, but it lacks headroom and width.I have been climbing and backpacking extensively for 35 years.Surprised to finally find specs I have been looking for (incl a weight well under 3 pounds), I bought the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 and set it up in my basement.Like all modern, name brand tents, it is well-manufactured.Big Agnes got most of the weight out by thinner fabric materials. My micrometer told me that the fly thickness is about 1.8 mil and the Roadster a more standard 3 mil, etc.My other measurements were very similar to the advertised specs.

I used the Fly Creek solo last week in the Sierra's John Muir Wilderness for a five day trip at 11,000 ft.My search ends!It sets up easily, has free-standing stability and was sufficiently spacious inside for me (I am 6 ft tall). My major concern was the thinner materials, but I saw no compromise during the five days of use.Tent walls seem adequate, though I have no way of knowing the effect of years of use.Probably alright, but therefore good ground protection is even more critical with this ultra light tent.Sans fly, about 18 inches of nylon wall kept the considerable night breeze off me, but allowed good ventilation.Headroom is still lacking, but without fly, I sat up to comfortably read with the tent door opened.Since the door face is angled back, it is also handy for changing clothes while standing inside the tent.I do wish more flat, headspace was designed in though, and a side mesh pocket or two.The last night I added the rain fly, which was taut and guyed out easily and well.Though not usually needed for my 3-season use, I expect the door vestibule will be challengingly adequate.

So I gain one third floor area and lose 1 lb 2 oz relative to my minimalist Roadster.(With my plastic ground cloth, my actual pack weight was 2 lb 8 oz.)More floor area and less weight - kudos to Big Agnes for a fine, game-changing product!

Product Description:
The Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 Ultra Light Tent uses SilNylon fabric and DAC aluminum poles to bring weight down to a scant 2lb 3oz. And that?s for a double-wall tent, not some trimmed-of-all-features single-wall thing. In addition to 22sq feet of internal space, this Big Agnes tent also gives you a large vestibule. Additional guy-out points on the fly provide more support when the wind really picks up and you?d rather just sleep instead of worrying about your tent turning into a kite.

Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL3 Super Light Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Great ventilation... I was able to stay inside the tent with an open rainfly (shaded) at 90 degrees. That gossamer mesh tent body means no condensation to contend with, and great views on clear nights.I was also very impressed with the weight... light enough to tempt an ultralight backpacker. We stayed dry throughout a 9 hour downpour, too!The down side (and its a big one, in my opinion) is that the tent body itself is very delicate (natch, being all mesh).Staking the tent down with the edges taut resulted in "runs" in the mesh netting in various areas.I didn't really stretch the tent incredibly taut, just snug, but it resulted in several little 1/2" runs scattered throught the tent canopy and upper sides.Stake the tent loosely (or not at all) and stake the fly taught and you should be fine, I think. However, if you're camping in windy conditions this could be a problem.

Kelty Pavilion 6-Person Tent (Navy/Grey) Review

Kelty Pavilion 6-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Appology for my poor English. Been using it for about 50 overnights, in Australia, with my wife and two kids. Had a 3P Sierra Designs before.

Pros:
The tent is large, water proof and quite well built, but that's about it.
Cons:
The mashes can't be covered, so you have to put the fly in order to be protected from sun, rain, wind and having some privacy. The fly requires 6 pegs at least, and since the tent is totally pointless without the fly, it is not a truly free standing tent. This means, too, that when the weather gets cold, you can't limit the air flow, so it gets cold inside, and if you need to build or fold it when its raining, the rain will get in.
Same when the hit is on- as the fly has no windows at all, the day's hit stays inside.
You end up with a tent that requires about 40 minutes to put up and with a poorly inside temp control in all weather conditions.
There is more-
you can't open the fly's door from the inside without bendingunder the fly's angled exit wall, and at morning time this means that you'll get wet and it is almost impossible to put-up the fly over the tent with no 2nd person's help.

There are tents out there that can be built in few minutes (Australian's "black-wolf turbo lite FS"), and that have a close-able windows in the tent's body as well as open-able windows in the fly (many types and brands) so you can control the inner temp much better.

Keep on looking.

Product Description:
Offering a highly durable aluminum frame that will withstand the harshest of weather conditions, the Kelty Pavilion provides luxurious sleeping space for six campers as well as a large screened vestibule area with room enough to store gear or set up chairs for watching the sunset. It offers three-season usage, and a freestanding design that enables you to move it around your campsite to find the optimum position. It also includes mesh ceiling and side-wall vents to prevent condensation build-up, UV resistant polyester rain fly, and color-coded poles for quick-and-easy setup. Weighing 26 pounds, this six-person Pavilion has a 121 square foot floor area, and an 83 square foot vestibule area.
The aluminum DAC DA17 poles offer more strength for improved durability and a more wind-resistant pitch. They use a color-coded clip construction that eliminates the hassle of feeding poles through cumbersome tent sleeves--just slide the shock-corded pole sections together and attach the clips. The tent also offers post and grommet type assembly with locking pole tips for convenience and security. Kelty's ArcEdge construction lifts floor seams up off the ground, preventing water seepage around the floor and wall seams. Other features include gear loft loops, mesh interior pockets for gear storage, external guy points for added stability in windy conditions, and noiseless zipper pulls.

Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

We decided to give this SUV & Minivan Sport Tent a shot. We are heavy into tent/car-camping and we love the interior space of a large tent.Although we are very happy tent campers we do crave more amenities and options from a tent. This is why we selected the Sport Tent. What we like about it is it's ability to utilize the amenties found in our vehicle while still being in the cocoon of a large comfortable tent.

Our vehicle has DVD and Audio components that we can use as well as several rear power output ports for inflating air mattresses and zillions of other cool and useful gadgets that requires a power source.

You can sit or sleep in either the vehicle or the tent simultaneously. We now watch movies and listen to music with state of the art audio and video clarity without disturbing ourneighbors. We utilize the vehicles wireless headphones in case one of us wants to sleep while the other stays up grooving to tunes and video. We can use the vehicle's rear power ports right inside the tent. You can't beat this and we can still camp anywhere, especially in the more remote and pristine areas where those big RVs and long travel trailers cannot get to.

This tent works for us and we recommend it.

Just back from a high altitude trek in the Indian Himalaya and used the Storm King for 2 weeks for the first time. Must mention that the Storm King is a great buy. During the two weeks we were hit initially by rain, then hail and finally tons of snow at 5000m. On some days we had very strong winds as well. The Storm King held up very well and kept us dry and warm. Apart from 3 of us sleeping in the tent the Storm King also easily accomodated the full team of 8 to hang out togeather every afternoon/ evening. The internal height at 64 inches does creare a fair amount of space and you do feel comfortable even if you are a large group. Would strongly recommend the Storm King for those looking for a large expedition tent.

Eureka N!ergy 1310 with E! Power Tent - 10 Person 2010 Review

Eureka Nergy 1310 with E Power Tent - 10 Person 2010
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We love our tent. Our first setup took 30 minutes without the fly, later setups took 15 to 20 minutes with 2 adults. First take down took 15 minutes with me (the mom) and our 10 year old daughter. Easy instructions to follow, be sure you notice the difference between the fly pole and the 2 black tent poles (the fly pole looks slightly thinner and has a longer rubber ending). We were able to fit our family of six inside. We used 2 king size mattresses, 1 small toddler pad, and a 7 year old boy's sleeping pad. Not a lot of extra room after that for gear, but we made it work. We had light rain after the 1st setup and the fly worked well. We did seal the seams. Good ventilation with the windows and upper openings. Would be nice if they had put pockets on the side walls. You do have a mesh gear holder that hangs from the ceiling. Ironically, we bought the power pak and everything but have yet to use the electricity. I'm hoping this comes in handy when we camp where we do not have access to an outlet.
All in all, we're very happy with the tent, high ceiling, feels airy and light inside. The ceiling and wall joints help reduce tension on the rods which I hope help the tent to last longer.

Nemo Equipment 3-Person Losi Tent Review

Nemo Equipment 3-Person Losi Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned and tried a number of tents because we go car camping, motorcycle camping and backpacking. I am really not exaggerating when I say this is the best tent I have ever owned. It is so well made, the size is perfect and the system of accessories I ordered was great.

The packed size fits well on my motorcycle and the weight is very light. If you know you are going to have good weather you can save some size and weight by either leaving the rain fly home or using just the rain fly and footprint. There is a nice sized vestibule when using the rain fly. I do suggest ordering the Footprint and Pawprint. The Pawprint will make it a snap to keep the tent clean and if you have a dog they will love having it to lay on. This tent is very roomy for two people and a couple of dogs.

Setup

The setup took about 15 minutes the first time and now it takes 5 minutes if we don't use the rain fly (which we seldom use), 8 minutes if we do. There is no reason to stake the base of the tent unless it is windy. The Jakes Feet are very stable and hold the tent sturdy. The footprint clips on the straps that are attached to the Jakes Feet so there is no reason to stake the footprint. The Pawprint snaps right in the corners of the tent. If there is rain this is one of the few tents you will not get wet in, it really is designed well.

The tent has two doors, one on each side. It comes with a gear storage caddy that can be moved to either side of the tent. You can get a gear loft that snaps in the top but I haven't ever needed that with all the room the tent has. I do recommend the Pawprint and Footprint.

Enjoy the outdoors!

Looking for extra space and comfort while at the campsite? Turn to the three-person Losi tent, the big brother to NEMO's acclaimed two-person Losi. By adding only 1 extra pound of weight, NEMO was able to increase the interior space from 32 to 50 square feet, giving you plenty of room to stretch your legs. Just like its little brother, the three-person Losi offers a unique pole configuration with nearly vertical walls to maximize interior space. The vestibules, meanwhile, offer up to 26 square feet of storage space, so you can stow your gear comfortably out of the way rather than in the tent. And thanks to the tent's full mesh canopy and large side vents, campers will enjoy ample ventilation whether on sunny summer evenings or rainy mornings.
Other details include a Gear Caddy with plenty of space for storing knickknacks; an optional Pawprint interior floor lining (sold separately) that's soft to the touch and machine washable; a 30-denier polyurethane nylon floor; a corner anchor system that locks the poles in place during setup; and four DAC Featherlite poles. The three-person Losi measures 91 by 48 by 79 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 6.7 pounds on your pack.

About NEMO
NEMO Equipment, Inc. is a small company located in southern New Hampshire with a passion for design and innovation. The company was founded in 2002 by Cam Brensinger, who had been working with a joint team at NASA and MIT to design the next generation of spacesuits. Cam is a committed rock and ice climber with a talent for inventing new technology.
After several years of development behind closed doors in their studio in New Hampshire, NEMO unveiled its first line of tents and shelters in 2005. This product line introduced several patent pending technologies including NEMO's AirSupported Technology. AST is a system of low-pressure inflatable ribs and lightweight pumps which replace the aluminum poles traditionally used in tents. These inflatable ribs are stronger than standard aluminum poles, faster and easier to set up, easier to repair, and more compact.
NEMO's bold steps forward in tent and shelter design earned the company much attention and accolades from the start. In 2005, one of their AirSupported tents was named among the 100 best inventions of the year by TIME and Popular Science magazines. That same year, the company also won the highest award for innovation in the outdoor sporting goods industry, the ISPO BrandNew award in Munich, Germany. In each subsequent year since 2005, NEMO has added new technology to its line and continued to refine their designs. NEMO tents have since won awards and recognition from Rock & Ice, Climbing, Backpacker and many other magazines. The company has a strong team of ambassadors, including many elite mountaineers and adventure racers. NEMO tents have been to every corner of the planet and are used, not only by passionate outdoor adventurers, but also by elite US Special Forces.

Domes, Tunnels and Sacks

I have owned this tent for three years, and I love it.I have taken it out on about 15 trips from New Mexican Summers to Ohio Winters. It is listed as a three season tent, but it will hold up in anything. The pole design is extremely simple with only one system. It is very easy to set up when using the foot print.Everything just clips into the ends of the poles. It also has numerous connection points for additional tie downs. There is enough room for two grown men, or one and a pack. After using the tent, I can't suggest anything else.

I bought my Nemo Losi 2 Person Tent from HumbleOutdoors for around $275, it came with a free footprint. My Losi 2P replaces my 20 year old SD Clip Flashlight.

I like the Pawprint concept for liner joins for sleeping pads to make a double bed. The full mesh canopy for summer evenings and large vents are great for airflow on rainy nights.

Nemo Equipment 3-Person Moki Tent Review

Nemo Equipment 3-Person Moki Tent
Average Reviews:

All of my very high expectations were met for this tent. Its quality construction justifies its rather lofty price.

Easy to assembly, very sturdy, excellent weather resistance coupled with good ventilation make this an ideal four season tent.

I was a little skeptical of the Moke Cheeze, but have been impressed. It's worth the additional money for winter camping.

My only complaint would be the folded size and weight, but that has to be expected with a tent this feature-rich and well built.

Product Description:
Designed using NEMO's Extreme Conditions Technology (ECT), the three-person Moki tent is appropriate for both climbing trips in the Himalayas and surf trips to the coast. NEMO designed the tent so that campers can convert half of the Moki's single-wall exterior to mesh and optional insulation, giving you the flexibility and comfort you need in any climate. The optional 10-square-foot vestibule, meanwhile, offers plenty of weatherproof protection of your gear. Add in a linking feature that lets you combine multiple Mokis--creating a large sleeping space that's terrific for group expeditions--and you have an ideal base-camp tent for all your outdoor adventures.

The tent's side doors double as vents for true 4-season versatility.Extreme Conditions Technology
The Moki is outfitted with NEMO's Extreme Conditions Technology, which offers a long list of features designed specifically to combat problems often faced by alpinists. One example is the Moki's condensation curtain, a thin piece of nylon fabric that hangs lightly above your sleeping bag at night. The curtain isolates your respiration in a small portion of the tent rather than letting it disperse throughout, which in turn helps eliminate frost buildup. The tent also offers Pressure Porting, a patent-pending technology that dissipates wind loading on cowling-shaped vents. These small openings along the seam of the vent allow some air to escape when high winds are present, ensuring that your tent will stay well ventilated regardless of conditions. At the same time, an outer flap conceals these openings and prevents rain and snow from entering.
The Moki is also compatible with the Cheez (sold separately), a custom-fitted liner that's designed to increase the interior temperature of the tent a toasty 15 to 20 percent. The Cheez is a breathable, metalized fabric laminate that acts much like a space blanket, reflecting the heat inside to make life below zero a little more inviting. Other details include 43 square feet of sleeping space; large overhead vents designed to increase airflow and reduce condensation; side doors that double as vents for true four-season versatility; a pair of welded polyurethane skylights; an Osmo waterproof/breathable shell; and a three-in-one stuff sack system that makes it easy to divide the load.
The Moki measures 90 by 48 by 75 inches (W x H x D) and weighs a minimum of 7.5 pounds. It's also backed by NEMO's lifetime warranty.

This screen house is wonderful if at times you want to keep out the rain, wind, or sunlight. All sides have drop curtains so you can raise, lower whichever ones you want. Set up was easy and one person could do it. The product quality is excellent....you get what you pay for!! Poles are sturdy.Poles to use a curtain as an awning are included. My only fault is that guy ropes to tie the tent down are not included....a mystery because it certainly would not be a big added expense. The best price was at Amazon...more than 100 bucks saved!

The near-vertical side walls also provide more usable interior space. This versatile screen house also features four side walls that can be used as waterproof walls or awnings--with 64.5 square feet of awning-covered exterior space on each side.
The 150D polyester splash cloth and roof provide excellent UV resistance, and offers more durability than other screen houses with 75D polyester roofs. About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

Ephor 6 Person Family Camping Dome Tent Review

Ephor 6 Person Family Camping Dome Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying I sell outdoors and emergency supplies. I have tested tons of tents. We just purchased the Ephor 6 Tent from CEC last week. Immediately we packed up the tent and all of the rest of our camping gear and headed off to the Gila River in Winkelman, AZ to test it out for 5 days. The following is my review of our experience:

Ease of Setup:
I put the tent up with my wife and daughters (7 and 11 y.o.) in about 30 minutes without any mishaps at all. Be prepared though, there are a ton of guy lines that have to be staked down in addition to the tent corners, and I found that the tent will unfortunately not stand up without them.

Size and Comfort:
The tent was HUGE! It housed my wife and I, our 3 children (11, 7 and 2 y.o.) and 2 dogs for 5 days. The ventilation was sufficient when we opened the side vents to the living areas. We really enjoyed all the extra space that this tent provides. Each inner tent has ample space complete with several storage pockets. The queen sized, double height inflatable bed that my wife and I use fits perfectly in one of the inner tents. The center living area is very large and fit all of our supplies for the week with lots of extra room to spare.

Overall
The stitching and fabric are made from strong, durable materials, however a stake loop on the front of one inner tent broke completely free leaving a hole in it's place. I suspect this simply was not sewn in completely at the factory. This will need to be re-sewn right away otherwise water will find it's way into the "totally waterproof - fully sewn in ground sheet in the SLEEPING AREA". The tent poles are strong and thick as well as being color coded; together the poles alone weighed over 30 pounds so I expect they may be able to hold up a small car. The tent stood up to strong winds without any problem at all. The tent stakes were unfortunately not as advertised. The company website and instruction set advertises that the tent comes with 55 "durable zinc plated steel stakes" however mine came with 40 cheap plastic stakes that bend easily. I had to immediately spend over $50 to get reasonable tent stakes from a local outdoors shop because we were leaving the following morning and I did not have extras on hand.

Rain
Everything was great right up until the night good ole' Mother Nature decided to dump rain on us. All four sides of the blue rain fly on top filled with water immediately and the whole tent went down to about half height under the pressure. Then the water started coming in from all the vented areas that were meant to be covered by the blue fly. There is no attached floor under the main living area so water started coming in from everywhere on the ground. The description on the company website states the following about the living area floor:"A tub style, fitted, removable ground sheet in the LIVING AREA that is attached to the rain fly with the use of hooks and toggles" In reality I found that the "tub style" floor was just a regular tarp that you stake to the ground via the four corners, there were no hooks or toggles for connecting the floor to the rain fly. This is supported by the instructions that come with the tent.

Overall Opinion:
From what I have seen so far I really like the tents that Camping Equipment Company designs. If you are looking for a huge tent for your family and you camp in mild conditions this is the tent for you. If however you are looking for a tent for camping in areas that may experience heavy rains I suggest you look at another tent model. This is a large tent with lots of extra room for storage but as a result you might want to set it up a couple of times in the backyard to get familiar with it prior to taking it camping for the first time.Pros:
Huge tent. Lots of storage space. Assembles easily. Good quality materials. Good ventilation. Color coded tent poles and inner tent hooks/toggles. Large removable front dual screened/weatherproof door.

Cons:
Rain fly collects water. Cannot stand on it's own with poles and stakes, needs guy lines or it will fall down. No tub floor under living area as advertised. No zinc plated steel tent stakes as advertised. "Totally Waterproof" inner tent floors do not account for the possibility of tent loop coming free and exposing hole to floor.

I purchased this product to replace a cheaper screen tent that lasted 4 years at our vacation home before the fabric began tearing. The better fabric in this tent was the reason we purchased it.It did not have additional support lines as the other one did. As we did with the other one we planned to leave it up for the season. We came up the following weekend and it had collapsed destroying two of the four poles.

A great choice for backyard barbecues, days at the beach, or evenings lounging at the campsite, the square Eureka Breezeway is nicely light and easily transportable thanks to its aluminum frame. It has a 144 square foot area (12 by 12 feet)--just right to fit a standard-sized picnic table--and a roomy 7 foot, 7 inch center height. The near-vertical side walls also provide more usable interior space.
The 150D polyester splash cloth and roof provide excellent UV resistance, and offers more durability than other screen houses with 75D polyester roofs. The strong durable shockcorded aluminum frame attaches to the body by a central hub and clips for a fast and easy set up every time. Other features include two full-length doors and no-see-um polyester mesh walls.

Sierra Designs Lightning XT 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season Review

I have been using a North Face Starfire (tunnel-dome style) tent for 12 years on backpacking and a few car-camping trips with zero complaints - at least until my wife and I got a black lab dog.Quarters were cozy for the two of us, but for the three of us it was downright cramped. So we purchased this Sierra Designs Lightning XT tent for our backpacking outings to have extra room for our dog and gear.We like to hike, camp, and backpack year round in Idaho, so we get everything from 100 degree heat (for a few weeks, anyways) to wet and rainy Spring and Fall seasons, to 10 or 12 feet of snow.It is all usually accompanied by wind of some form or another. We haven't put three people in it, so I can't speak for whether or not it is a roomy 3 person tent, but it sure is a comfy and spacious 2 man tent, even with the dog.

The tent is super light weight; it packs down to the same size and weighs about the same as my North Face 2 man tent.Splitting it between two people makes even better and not at all bulky or heavy in a pack. The tent is almost entirely mesh, which my wife really likes on starry nights, with a bathtub style waterproof bottom. The rainfly is coated nylon and comes down just an inch or two shy of the ground with two vestibules, since there are two doors on the tent.It hooks in to the tent corners where the tent poles hook in, as well clips on to the poles for added stability.Setting the poles up is different than other tents I've used, but seems like it will hold up well in sub-hurricane winds. It is easier to do with two people, but it can be set up by one person if needs be.The tent doesn't have sleeves for the poles, there are just clips every foot or so which seems a little less bomb-proof than my North Face tent, but I haven't had any problems. The poles are hubbed, which also seems a bit less bomb-proof, but the major loads and stresses placed on the poles doesn't go through the hubs so I don't think it will be an issue in the future. The third less bomb-proof item is the fabric - its a little lighter and thinner than my North Face tent to save on weight and bulk. However, the poles, fabric, and clips are all very high quality, so I seriously doubt that I will have any issues with reliability or durability with this tent.

The idea to use Jake's Feet connectors, hubbed poles, and a full mesh top aren't brand new, and most of the big manufacturers buil tents this way.So I figure I won't knock the design unless I really do have a problem.Hence, it still get's 5 stars because it is a high quality, spacious, and VERY light and packable tent. Overall, I'm very pleased with the tent and expect years of service out of it without any issues.
