I bought this tent at a reasonable price here. I assumed it was the SL version so jumped on the price without thinking. I'm still happy with the non SL version. Not a "pro" hiker so take my comments with a grain of salt =)

very spacious for single person, but seems a bit snug for two unless both are using mummy style sleeping bags. Vestibule was smaller than all photos and review videos appear. Was disappointed there, but still there was plenty of room to stow my pack inside the tent proper without getting in the way of sleep---and I toss and turn. Vestibule held shoes, poles, rope, misc. with plenty of access room in and out. Had the pack stayed outside, I would be worried it would fall over or push through the material.

Rain fly access zipper was awkward to close and open from within the tent. The vestibule angle is a bit steep so it places the zipper closing point at an uncomfortable reach from the tent opening. Opening and closing the rain fly door from inside meant I had to plant one hand on the earth to balance myself while reaching with my other hand to zip. This might get a bit of dirt or mud inside if you're not careful.

Poles seems strong enough. I admit that I was a bit paranoid that I might snap one or two during first setup. Poles fit together nicely without much thought on my part. The elastic cord basically pulled the frame together on its own. I just had to make sure the segments were fully secure into each other. Tension was tight once I placed the second pole tip into the tent corner. Also when snapping on the last 2 or 3 top spine clips to connect the tent material to the frame, it really seemed like the spine pole was just a bit too long for everything to reach. After nudging some of the lower tent clips up, everything came together a little easier with minimal pressure. Rain fly went over easy enough. Wish there were instructions, but it's pretty self-explanatory.

Everything folded up without issue and slid into the compression sack smoothly. Entire bag fit base of my backpack and pack straps held it well enough. Seemed to ease left or right over the course of the hike. It was never enough so that the tent bag pulled free of the pack straps, but I would check it every few miles. That could just be my packing though.

Love the tent. Regret the non-SL version, but whatever. I don't do this enough to need the difference. Would suggest the footprint. Seems like there is enough slack in the compression sack to probably fit that too. That also may add more cushion to prevent the sliding that I noted on the backpack.

I hope that helps?

MSR Mo Room 2P Two-Person Tent Review

MSR Mo Room 2P Two-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a novice camper with two (two person) tents...and they couldn't be any more different. In my experience, a two person tent generally means that two people sleep "head to feet" (meaning two people do not sleep with their heads at the same end). The MSR Mo Room 2p is generous on space, and more tailored for two people that want to sit up and play cards without hitting your head on the top or sides. Two sleeping bags can fit side by side without bumping shoulders, but if you bring anything extra, it will need to sit at your feet or in the vestibule area.I would not consider this an ideal tent for backpacking (as it is not designed for that), however it is plausible if you don't mind the added 3 to 4lbs or just put the poles in your friend's pack.Setting it up was not too bad, but a little more complex than my other two man tent.Once you get everything together the first time and see how it works, its really not that bad.My best advice: As with any new tent, set it up at home first before you leave on your first trip with it. The poles require a lot of flexing to lock down, but this of course is what makes it so sturdy. One thing I would also add, is that the included stakes were much more solid than those flimsy little silver "wannabe stakes" that came with most tents such as my North Face Tephra 22 tent (Which is might add is a cool tent, but really more ideal for just one person.)Because of the quality of the pieces that come in the bag, I am not concerned that this Mo Room 2p is going to "cave" in the middle of the night.

I purchased this tent for $229 from a new vendor (Second Ascent). The item arrived "Brand New" as advertised. The shipping was a little slow, but on time as promised. To summarize, I would consider this a successful purchase at this price point for a two person camping experience that will give you enough room to spread out. It's feasible to take on a two person backpacking trip, but ideal for a solid/reliable base camp tent.

I took the tent out for a weekend of car camping at a State Park near the lake. The weather that weekend was cold with lows around 32 and extremly windy. The tent sets up easily, but i would recomend trying it out in your backyard before taking it on the trip.

The Tent held up like a champ in the windy conditions, others in the group had their tents collapse under the wind. The tent poles are of excellent quality and there are many ties downs that assist in securing the tent.It also has excellent ventilation, plenty of space for Me and my two kids and all our gear. The pouches all around the inside of the tent are great for organizing gloves, keys, flashlights, and storage bags. I am 5'8 and i can stand up in the center of tent without ducking.

The bag it comes with is icing on the cake. It holds everything neatly in place and you dont have to have an engineering degree to get it easily packed up and back in the bag.It even holds the footprint, 'sold seperatly', in one of the pouches.

No regrets with this purchase

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season Review

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

I'm a big guy and often have my pooch as my hiking buddy, so when the chance came up to buy this cheaply in new condition, I jumped at it.I took it on a campout this weekend in George Washington National Forest(this was the first weekend in a dog's age that it wasn't too hot out) and put it through the paces.

I think the tent is better as a one person person+dog tent than a two person tent, although smaller, thinner people may disagree. It seems to be only a little bigger than my Eureka Backcountry.

It seems to be pretty good about condensation.Between me and the combat puggle we should have created a lot of mositure, but what little there was was on the fly.Stretching out the fly's sides with guylines creates little windows and provides limited outside viewing while still protecting you and your stuff from the elements.I prefer this over the Clip Flashlight...I just don't care for tents that aren't freestanding(I like to lift the whole thing up when I'm packing out and shake it clean).

I recommend it!

Kelty Palisade 4-Person Tent Review

Kelty Palisade 4-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Kelty Palasaide was the second tent that I received from Kelty.I had purchased the Kelty Villa 4 this year (2010) and when I set it up I came to find out that is was defective.I called the warranty department at Kelty and they were really great. They had me setup the Villa Tent one additional time and then had me send a photo of the 3 inched of space under the floor.Being that the Villa 4 tent was from 2007 and discontinued they offered the Palisade as replacement.I was sold on the vestibule just from the website.

We are planning a trip next week to Sedona and as a test run we set the tent up in our living room. The main part of the tent went up supper easy - the circular pole was an interesting puzzle to figure out and using my 6 year old daughter as a brace we managed to get the tent up. I can honestly say that I could set up the entire tent by myself. As for the circular pole for the roof, I think a tree, car or anything stationary will work just fine if you are setting it up by yourself.

There are a few issues that I have with the tent....

1. Staking the Tent is a Must - The tent definitely needs to be staked to the ground. We go beach camping Palisade offers great ventilation in 80 degree Arizona evenings - finding a way to stake it in the sand will challenging.

2. Lack of Privacy. The Palisade is basically a bug shield without the rain fly.If you like a little privacy in a big campground you will need to attach the fly. Then you give up the awesome open roof and the star gazing that goes along with it.If you tend to do back country camping then the openness will not matter to much.

3. Pets Can Potentially Damage the Tent - We have a puppy we will be taking on our next camping trip and she already has come into the tent and made herself at home. The thing that concerns me is that if she wants out she can tend to scratch at the door.If she does with this tent the mesh will not last.

The Really positive things about the tent....

1. A BIG stuff sack - When we opened the box we found ample room in the duffle bag to account for non-professional packing.

2. A Star Gazing Roof to die for - My daughter and I laid down in the tent and looked up at the ceiling in our living room and the first thing she said was wow we can sure see a lot of shooting stars in this tent!!!!

3. Super Easy to Setup and Take Down - I could do it myself!

4. Large with Vertical Walls - We like to sleep with big comfy cots and both fit in just nicely. If you wanted a third cot it could get a little tight.Four cots would definably not fit.

5. Vestibule and Rainfly is really cool! - Makes an extra room for you!(For it to work it needs to be staked to the ground!)

6. Great Customer Service - Kelty provides awesome customer support directly out of their Colorado office...

We will report back once we have a chance to test it in the field.

Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 3 - Three Person Tent Review

Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 3 - Three Person Tent

I bought this as my first tent for hiking/BWCAW/car camping tent, and it is pretty nice. If you are looking for a spacious tent for 2 people that weights 4.5 lbs, and you have a little scratch to blow, this is it. Sets up in about 5 minutes, and it tight as a drum. Very tight and very light, well worth the price. Get or make a footprint, I could see the floor getting holes w/o one. I also have the gear loft which works nicely for keeping a few items within reach and off the floor. The only downside, which is not a factor for me, is this would be a tiny 3 man tent, although 3 will fit. I don't ever plan on trying that out. The vestibule is a little small, but I could see a lot of stuff fitting in there if you really crammed it in or stacked it.

I was looking for a tent that wasn't too big or too small. The pine island fits the bill.My wife and our four dogs had plenty of room.Granted we made sure they were plenty tired.I did a dry run at home first, very easy. It's lightweight for its size and the briefcase style bag will pack great on my motorcycle. The vestibule 's are large and plenty of pouches inside. It really holds the heat in so remember to prop open the vestibules on hot days.
Last note, the insect population found refuge under the rainfly, I had to remove it then put it back on before retiring for the evening.
