ARS 10-Foot x 10-Foot Aluminum Shelter (Blue) Review

ARS 10-Foot x 10-Foot Aluminum Shelter
Average Reviews:

I purchased this canopy because of the reviews claiming high quality and easy setup.Yes, it appears to be well made, but it is NOT easy to setup. The setup instructions are a joke: one step shows the cover hanging over the frame and the next step show the canopy completely setup. The text and diagrams do not state or show HOW you raise the canopy. My wife and i could NOT push the frame up and I think we would need 2-3 more people to force it up.There must be an easier way to set this up.

I'm getting concerned that the reviews we are reading are put there by the people representing the people selling the items, rather than real people buying and using the products. All of the sales literature and all of the reviews speak to easy setup - not by what I can see. We've setup tents, canopies, and various other kinds of shelters, but we've NEVER had this much trouble.I have a call into the company, but I get the impression from their email address (juno.com) that it is a small-time import operation without any real customer service staff. You can't get any product support from Amazon.com, so this may be a case of returning it.I can't get this thing setup, so I'll have to update this after I get it completely setup or returned to Amazon.

The design of the Napier Sportz Truck tent is very good and well thought out. However, I can not recommend the product due to major problems with the fiberglass tent poles. The tent uses five jointed poles, differing in length and sized based on purpose. With very occasional and light use three poles have failed, one the first time it was used. The company, Napier, would not replace any of them but did offer to sell me new ones. Considering the price of the tent and the very light use I would have to list this tent as unsatisfactory and would strongly suggest a buyer look elsewhere. Concept great, tent construction and design great, tent poles total failure.

Paha Que Pamo Valley 10- by 10-Foot Six-Person Tent Review

Paha Que Pamo Valley 10- by 10-Foot Six-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband and I have been tent camping for years. We own two other tents - a 4-person REI dome tent (that we've enjoyed for 10+ years) and a small backpacking tent that sets up quickly and takes up very little space in the trunk of our car. We finally got this last summer when I wanted to start sleeping on a cot (back problems, darn them) and none of the cots I wanted would fit in our other tents.

After lots of careful research I decided on this tent because of its size, everything I'd read about ease of set-up, Paha Que's customer service, and how well people say they stand up to wind and storms. We like desert camping and wind and storms are usually part of the package.

We got to use it for two camping trips so far and were not disappointed whatsoever. But I must say that I am REALLY glad we did a trial set-up in our local park before going. Some of the set-up for us wasn't as easy as it looked in their online video instructions - those poles are really strong and not as flexible as the fiberglass ones we were used to (and maybe we're just a little more out-of shape than we thought). Either way, we were able to figure out a system that worked for us ahead of time so we weren't struggling during set-up at the campsite. I highly recommend doing that if you can.

I can't say enough good things about sleeping in it though. It was huge and roomy - my husband was able to stand up to get dressed and undressed which he never could in our other tents (he's just under 6' tall). We also had room for a small table, a tent fan and a porta-potty (no more late night jaunts out into the cold where I wake up too much to go back to sleep).

The inside pockets that are reachable from the outside are very handy, as is the "attic" where we can store all those little things that just get in the way. We could've brought chairs in if we wanted, there's that much room, but we didn't want to this time. Heck we could live in it if we ever needed to! I also love the square shape vs the dome shape - it's a much better use of space and things just seem to fit better (like cots, for instance).

We didn't get to try out its storm-resistant qualities though, because we had unusually good weather those weeks - darn it, because I was really looking forward to cozying up in there during a good storm. Oh well, maybe next time. But the ventilation was excellent and we didn't notice any condensation on the tent walls, even though there was dew on the grass in the mornings.

The only downside (and I'm really reaching here) is that because of its large footprint our choice of campsites was more limited than we were used to - but that would be true of any large tent and it's actually smaller than a lot of other "family" tents on the market.

Product Description:
Like all Paha Que tents, the Pamo Valley Tent--the tallest model of all tents by Paha Que--uses state-of-the art fabrics, innovative design, and high-quality components for performance that ensures a trouble-free camping experience. Designed to provide maximum usable space and total weatherproof performance, this tent is ideal for 4-6 people.
With its large no-see-um grade mesh roof, two large doors and windows, the Pamo Valley provides excellent ventilation, visibility around camp, and fantastic stargazing at night. And when the weather turns unpredictably drizzly or wet, the Pamo Valley buttons up tightly with an easy-to-install rainfly for full waterproof performance--even in heavy rain anddriving wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. A bathtub style floor design keeps running ground water out off the tent as well.
The entire tent body and floor seams of the Pamo Valley are factory tape-sealed, elimating the need for an awkward full-coverage rainfly. By sealing all of the tent's floor, body, and rainfly seams, only a partial coverage rainfly is needed, which is also integral to Paha Que Weather Control System (WCS). Partial coverage rainflies and mesh roofs provide great ventilation in any weather while virtually eliminating interior condensation, even on the most humid nights. Paha Que's rainflies (which have built-in awnings) also allow the use of doors and windows even during foul weather.
The Pamo Valley comes complete with a full set of adjustable and reflective guylines and two complete sets of ground stakes to accommodate any ground conditions you may encounter. An oversized carry sack makes folding and storing the tent a breeze. An emergency tent repair kit is also included with this tent. Gear access ports are located underneath each side window which allow access to your gear without tracking bugs and mud into the tent. (This is especially a feature appreciated by the parents of little ones!) Interior hanging gear slings and an overhead gear attic make gear storage and access a snap while also maximizing the amount of usable space inside the tent.
The entire Pamo Valley tent is supported by a heavy-duty 6000 series aluminum pole set. All sets are shock-corded for ease of set-up and storage and are also covered by Paha Que's lifetime warranty. A pair of awning poles is also included.

About Paha Que
Paha Que Wilderness Inc. is a young and innovative company that makes high-quality family camping tents. Campers love them, but when they first see the name in print, they pause and wonder just how to pronounce it and try to understand its meaning. You won't find it in any dictionary and there have been debates amongst linguists about its derivation. According to the legend behind the term, Paha Que is the Southwest Indian version of "Aloha." Paha Que takes it to mean "happy trails." It can mean hello, good-bye, how are you, have a good day, and more. Perhaps a variation on the Spanish phrase Que Pasa? The people at Paha Que learned it from a local rancher friend whose grandpa learned it from local Indians. It boils down to the fact that the name is surely different, and appropriately so because these tents are very different from ordinary tents.
Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Kelty® Trail Dome 6 Tent Review

Kelty® Trail Dome 6 Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
On a tent camping trip, a quality tent is essential; the Kelty Trail Dome 6 is just such a beautiful piece of equipment. While rated as a six person tent, this cozy, one-room shelter will sleep three to four adults comfortably if you usually use an airbed under your sleeping bags. The design is pretty standard for a dome tent, but it's in the fit, finish and details that this tent excels. Here are some more positive aspects to consider:

1. The layout is a square 10' by 10' with a substantial 6' center height. The tent hooks onto the poles with color coordinated clips. One person can setup this tent, but securing the rainfly does require a little finesse because it's big and slippery.

2. The rainfly provides great coverage on the sides, and there are plenty of velcro stays and guyouts to make the tent secure in a substantial wind and rain storm. Other tents went down while this tent stayed up keeping its occupants under cover. Large ventilation panels of no-see 'um netting on each side are located well up under the sides to protect from rain and snow, but their location does make it just a little less ventilated when there's no moving air such as on a hot, summer night.

3. The bathtub floor has taped and sealed seams (standard on any high quality tent) and the floor extends well up the sides to give very good protection against water infiltration.

Some things that will make the tent more livable are light-reflective guywires such as the Kelty Triptease; the guylines that come with the tent are black nylon and impossible to see at dusk let alone at night. Also, an available footprint for the tent from Kelty does make it a lot easier to setup the tent while adding a necessary layer of protection under the floor.

It seems everyone who has done tent camping has had some bad experience with inclement weather, but fortunately this tent is part of the solution rather than part of the problem. No tent is perfect, but if you like camping, this tent helps you get a good night's sleep so you have more energy for the "roughing it" part of your adventure. Have fun!

I have owned a number of large tents over the years, from Colemans to North Face, and I guess its true that you get what you pay for.On our recent trip to Moab (southern Utah) with a few other families, I made the decision to buy a decent tent for this years trip.My friend could not understand why the price difference between our new Paha Que and his Kelty that he got at Wal-Mart.

On the third night a storm blew through, as they often do in the desert, and it got suprisingly windy. All of us who were camping in tents had run out our guide ropes in anticipation of some windier weather, and glad we did, although it didn't seem to help some of the others.

About 2am the wind got really heavy, and two of the other tents just collapsed! This is the part where I realized the extra money I spent was worth it.We ended up taking some of the other kids into our tent - we had a total of 4 adults and 6 kids in our tents, while the remainder slept in their vehicles until the morning.

We were able to repair the rest of the tents to last the rest of the trip, but our tent won the "built like a brick s--- house" award on this trip. There was no sign of any wear and tear on the tent at all.Very impressive. This is my first Paha Que tent, and it seems to be as good as everyone says they are.I will recommend it to all my friends.

Product Description:
The largest and most versatile tent manufactured by Paha Que Wilderness, the Perry Mesa tent uses state-of-the art fabrics, innovative design, and high-quality components for performance that ensures a trouble-free camping experience. This tent combines the best features and benefits of Paha Que tents and screen rooms into a very functional shelter.
The tent section can be completely sealed off and will provide a waterproof shelter. A large door can open to the screen room section of the shelter to create one large room. The screen room has awnings onto all three sides which can be attached as awnings, rolled up, or put down to cover a side of the tent from wind, rain, or sun. With all three awnings pulled down, the screen room can also be sealed off to create a floorless tent area. Add the Perry Mesa Tent Footprint (available separately), and you can create one large sealed tent.
With its large no-see-um grade mesh roof, two large doors, three windows, and the screen room, the Perry Mesa provides excellent ventilation, visibility around camp, and fantastic stargazing at night. Kelty Mantra 7 Seven Person Tent Review

Kelty Mantra 7 Seven Person Tent
Average Reviews:

I just returned (today) from a camping trip in Yosemite using this tent for the first time.Putting up the tent the first time wasn't too tough, but it took about 40 minutes (taking my time). You will need a lot of room on one side of the tent (at least 20 feet) to slide these humongous gold poles through the tent sleeves. The tent itself is pretty nice. There is TONS of room on the inside and we got this tent specifically so we could put our son on the other side since he can be an abusive sleeper, but we didn't end up using the divider. The positives of the tent: large sleeping space, tall enough to stand in (I'm 6'2"), good ventilation, setup wasn't too bad, 3-season tent with good rainfly. The bad?Well, it would have been nice to have some type of privacy without the rainfly being on.The screens on the front are huge and you can see right through them.Pushing the tent poles through the sleeves was kinda tough as the material wanted to grab onto the poles.Just takes a little more time and a helper would make the process easier. The floor material seemed a little thin and it got me worried when I brought our suitcase in there. The floor looked nicely sealed against the elements though. We didn't have the tent in the rain, so I can't tell you how it performed...although it started to rain just as I was packing the tent away in the back of the car.The vestibule on this tent is large and you can pretty much set a seat or two within it.With the rainfly on, it makes the tent much larger, so plan on having a large campsite to put this tent in place.Yes, it's a large tent...and that's what you are looking for!:)If I was to purchase again, I would buy this tent again.

The quality of this tent is on par with what you would expect from one designed for backcountry enthusiasts. You can't find that attention to detail in most 6 man tents. Nothing bad to say about it. I have a family of four, we wanted room to grow and have more than enough with this tent. Interior mesh pockets everywhere. Room enough to stand. The panoramic view from our backs was the nicest surprise. Love it! if you are car camping with kids this is a must have.

Eureka Extended Stay 19- by 14-Foot Eight-Person Family Tentis no good. Its poor design made it function like a huge parachute.I set it up in my back yard to apply seam sealer and the tent disintegrated in less than 24 hours in a 10 to 15 MPH breeze.I had attached all clips to the poles and the tent was fully staked except for one loop inside, which stabilized the door in the room divider. The two main fiberglass poles that supported the rain fly split lengthwise and then sheered in two.The tent collapsed to the ground and could not be righted without replacement parts.I cannot believe that Eureka put their name on this tent.

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

Product Description:
Co-designed by veteran mountain guide Mike Haugen and tested on Mount Everest, the Coleman Exponent Helios X3 is a four-season tent worthy of the most grueling conditions. Developed to withstand high-altitude environments, the Helios X3 is a three-person tent that is slightly oversized and suitable for expeditions or base camps at higher elevations. A modified dome, it has a footprint of 92" x 82", two large D-shaped doors and two vestibules that are 8 square feet each. Center height is 48". The Helios tent features four Yunan Atlas Scandium poles; used in high-performance sporting goods as well as military and space applications, the scandium alloy is well-suited to tent poles that must stand up to demanding conditions. A shock-corded floating connector, tapered on each end, joins identical poles, eliminating the need for a fixed insert in either pole. This innovative design allows the poles to flex in an even arc with better distribution of stress, making them stronger and less prone to failure. Structural features include a combination of pole sleeves and quick-clips for quicker setup without compromising strength. Extensive pole coverage with multiple guy-out points provides "bomb shelter" strength to handle snow loads and high-altitude winds. The 70-denier nylon fly sports silicone and polyurethane coatings to increase resistance to wind and weather. Inside pockets provide a handy place to store gear. Pack weight: 12 pounds 4 ounces.

Vista Tent - 3 Person Marigold 000 by Black Diamond Review

Vista Tent - 3 Person Marigold 000 by Black Diamond
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally got around to testing this tent under a number of different circumstances after I purchased it a couple of months ago.
First it's quite spacey and like most 3 person tents it is verycomfortable with two people.
The vestibules could have come a bit larger as there is not that much space to leave your backpack.
I like the the two doors.Makes it easier to get out when you don't have to crawl over the other person in the tent.
Although the external doors are fitted somewhat a bit awkward -meaning not exactly over the inner doors. So you kinda have to get around from one end to the other somehow.
All the mesh is nice if you want to watch the stars at night for instance but if it does get cold it can become a bit breathy in there, with the fly over it that is.
So definetly not more than a 3season tent, maybe even more like a 2 1/2 season one depending on where you camp.
I used it in the Australian outback/bush and in the mountains,in sun and hot tropical conditions and in pouring rain and mountain chills.
It performed very well in the rain but you need to have a good footprint.
I tried some polyester tarp stuff but because of the different size at the ends I have decided to order the original footprint from Backcountry.
Overall it is a good lightweight tent for camping and hiking but not for really cold weather (have a marmot pinnacle sleepingbag and good mat).
The one thing that is really strange is it seems to attract large crowds of flies, sandflies, and the like-must be because of the colour(?) I guess.
Can become a bit annoying depending on where you stay.
and they could have added a couple of spare pegs.
But in that price range a reliable and easy to put up lightweight option which performs well in rain.

Big Agnes Big House 6 - Six Person Tent Review

Big Agnes Big House 6 - Six Person Tent
Average Reviews:

PROS:Relatively easy set up, 90 sq. ft. of interior space, height of the tent allows everyone to stand up inside, nice duffel to store and carry the tent, large optional vestibule for cooking and storing gear(64 st. ft.!), 12 all-around mesh pockets inside the tent to stow away everything, mesh around the entire perimeter and top of the tent - fly can also be folded up half way for 360 degree views with weather protection of the fly for top 2/3 of the tent, skylight for star gazing even with the fly on.

CONS:Pole for back awning is difficult to insert into the grommets - we had to aggressively bend ours to fit!No full fly for front and back doors so we are concerned about water leakage in a heavy storm.Only provided 4 guylines even though we need at least 2 more to properly stake down the fly.(We can obviously buy more guylines but it's still annoying that Big Agnes would skimp on guylines!)

WISH LIST (Hope you are listening, Big Agnes):"Zip-offable" vestibules for the front and the back doors. This will provide the added weather protection but also allow for more ventilation when no vestibule is needed.(We bought the optional vestibule which attaches to the front door but the back door is still exposed.)

BOTTOM LINE:The Big House 6 is a great tent for our family of four for mostly warm weather car camping. We can fit a pack 'n play and 3 sleeping bags in the tent without any problems. The abundance of mesh on the tent body is great for warm weather camping and beach going.(The tent is airy and open enough to use as a beach cabana.)On the other hand, with the abundance of mesh, the tent may be too chilly for true 3 season camping. Thus, it is an excellent tent for car camping during warm weather where comfort and ease of set-up are your key criteria in selecting a family tent.

An accessory vestibule is sold separately and adds extra covered space for your gear, a shady sitting area or shelter for the dogs! Includes vestibule, stuff sack, pole and stakes.

Spent way too long researching tents for size, weight, durability, mesh area. Did not care about cost. This tent was the winner. I'm 6ft, head and toes don't touch ends. Sit up room excellent. Wide enough for me and 2-12yr olds. Hammered in rain for hours, with 90% humidity, 95F, doors open, not a drop. Vestibule big enough for packs. Stuff sack large for packing wet tent. Set instructions need help (longest poll attach to red tabbed corners and pole hubs smooth side face up) Don't worry about all the comments on the poles or difficulty setting up. Just follow the sentance above. Only con, zippers catch (4 of 5 stars). Really happy with purchase.

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Double Tent Cot (Green) Review

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Double Tent Cot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those whom are considering buying this product-you don't need another review that praises the ingenuity of the Tent Cot so I'll just give you the gripes.

1. Should have included a rainfly
For heaven's sake I could see sunlight through the sewn seams of the roof of the tent which were not taped.A rain fly should not be considered an accessory!!!!!!!!!Yes, I ordered one today.

2.The grommets that secure the poles (you insert the poles in these gromments at either end of the tent roof) for the roof were offset from the center of the strap making it difficult to insert the end of the poles.Quality control problem?

3. The roof would have been better (in my opinion) as a noseeem roof WITH A RAINFLY INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!

4. The instructions are terrible. The setup is simple if you have done it once or twice or have seen it done. Try to figure out the simple setup from the enclosed crude instructions and you will wonder how they can engineer such a great product and stop the process when they got to the instructions-typical old school engineers.

5. No UV protection for the fabric expecially for the rainfly (poor show). $13.00 for a bottle of 333 UV did the trick.

6. At 40+ pounds I would still be tempted to backpack this in for short trails (no ground sheet, mat, stakes, fly weight) but it is so wide. If they had a couple/decouple in the main tubes so you could fold it in half-that would be the ticket!!!!!!!

again a great product but it could be so much more with these little extras.

hope this helps

This would have been a 4 star product if it were not for the above issues.

for what is worth....
