My wife and I have an older version of this tent and I will never buy another tent from anyone else. This MH tent has kept us dry through so many East Coast Summer torrential downpours I have lost count. So many times we have gone to bed in a full campground, and woken up to have the entire place to ourselves due to an over night storm. As they say, you get what you pay for; and in this case it's worth every penny.

The only drawback we have; is that our version doesn't have a lot of ventilation so sit is warm in the summer time. This version seems to have a lot more vents.

Buy a Mountain Hardware tent, you won't regret it!

We have owned two Eureka Screen Rooms, and friends have the latest Eureka Northern Breeze. This beats them all hands down. The attention to detail (straps to help pack the rolled up room, extra reinforcements at every stress point, a built in bag for the stakes, sewn-in instructions) and the quality of construction are exceptional. It definitely takes two people to set it up, but this is worth the price.

About Paha Que
Paha Que Wilderness Inc. is a young and innovative company that makes high-quality family camping tents. Campers love them, but when they first see the name in print, they pause and wonder just how to pronounce it and try to understand its meaning. You won't find it in any dictionary and there have been debates amongst linguists about its derivation. According to the legend behind the term, Paha Que is the Southwest Indian version of "Aloha." Paha Que takes it to mean "happy trails." It can mean hello, good-bye, how are you, have a good day, and more. Perhaps a variation on the Spanish phrase Que Pasa? The people at Paha Que learned it from a local rancher friend whose grandpa learned it from local Indians. It boils down to the fact that the name is surely different, and appropriately so because these tents are very different from ordinary tents.

GoLite Shangri-La 2 Shelter Tent Review

GoLite Shangri-La 2 Shelter Tent

A great tent for the light weight backpacker. Pros - the tent is light and folds up small. The set up is a little tricky because you are dealing with stakes to hold the tent down. This is more of a rain fly than a tent. There is NO BOTTOM for this tent. They sell a separate bottom for this model or you can buy the bug-screen insert that fits perfectly inside this tent. You can use trekking-poles to hold it up the tent, however this sucks because once you go inside the tent in limits the amount of space you have and you are always fearful of knocking down one or both of the trekking-poles and down comes they tent with you in it. I like to use the corner loops and tie the tent to a tree using string or rope. This way you have more room and you can roll over in the night without worry of bringing down the house. What I don't like about the tent besides the trekking pole thing is you need to stake down the tent to have it work properly and you really need to be in a place that has some place to hang the tent. Another words this tent is not very useful if you are in a place that has a hard ground where stakes don't work and/or a place that has no trees to hang up the tent. One more thing, it really helps to buy a light weight tarp for this tent to sit on. My 6'-8" friend used this tent for five nights while hiking in the Sespe wilderness in 2010. It was the first time he had a back packing tent that actually fit him. This tent can easily and comfortably hold two people and two backpacks, or one giant person like SHAQ.

Product Description:
The innovative, ultra-lite GoLite Shangri-La 2 backcountry shelter delivers serious weather protection for 4-season use and unparalleled space-to-weight ratio with superb durability. It can be used by itself, with the Shangri-La 2 Floor, or with the Shangri-La 2 Nest inner bug tent (note that it doesn't come with a floor). Large enough for two sleepers, this ultra-lite dual-peak design can be pitched with your trekking poles, over paddles or ski poles, or hang it from branches via its top loops.
The reflective stake out loops keep you from tripping in the middle of the night and the hydrophilic thread at the seams expand when wet--sealing the seams and eliminating the need for liquid sealant. The Shangri-La 2 provides 49 square feet of protected interior space. Dual roof vents allow air to circulate and combat condensation build-up. Six Y-stakes, a stake sack, and tent stuff sack are included.
The ultra-lite waterproof SilLite fabric of the Shangri-La 2 sheds both rain and snow, making the Shangri-La 2 surprisingly weather-resistant. Silicone-elastomere fabrics allow their fibers to stretch without separating or breaking, and this makes them stronger than conventional PU-coated (or PU/siliconized) fabrics for a far lower weight. Silicone impregnation means that the silicone completely permeates the fibers and also makes the fabric hydrophobic, so it doesn't soak up water and gain weight.
Specifications:

    Usage: 3- to 4-season backpacking
    Capacity: 2 sleepers
    Area: 49 square feet
    Interior height: 45 inches

This trolling motor worked very nice on its first outing. Was used on a pelican 1200. It was used on a two day float trip down the river. We fished all day using the motor on and off. The boat was loaded with one person, loaded cooler, fishing supplies, tent, and camping gear. Also was towing a duck decoy container with more supplies. This thing will get a lot of use this duck hunting season. It also took a beating on the rock's and still preformed very well, very few battle scars.

Eureka Freedom Outfitter 11-Foot by 6.5-Foot Two-Person Tent Review

Eureka Freedom Outfitter 11-Foot by 6.5-Foot Two-Person Tent
Average Reviews:

I bought my son a Eureka 4XT years ago when he was a Cub Scout & I was the Cubmaster. Now that he's in Boy Scouts, dads like me (I'm still an adult leader) have to use our own tents. However I've since landed in a wheelchair so this design really appealed to me.

Our Boy Scout Troop uses all Eureka Outfitter tents so the boys have no trouble assembling this for me if I need help. This is very important when we're too close for my chair to navigate between the tent plots as proved to be the case at West Point this year. The National Jambo will be even worse.

The fan door is awesome even for able bodies especially if the area is cramped. The door is more navigable than a staked flap which can create a tripping hazard.

Assembly is a little unusual at first but very sensible once you're used to it.

I encountered an extreme wind & rain event this year with no issues at all. This tent fared much better than the cheap mass merchant tents that so many parents buy.

Many people are shocked when they see me at a camping event in my custom off-road power-chair but this Eureka Freedom Outfitter makes it all possible in grand comfort & style.

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.
Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Marmot Twilight 2P - 2 Person Tent (Fall 2010) Review

Marmot Twilight 2P - 2 Person Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son and I camp with this tent frequently and we like it very much. The floor size is very good and the large vestibules are an excellent feature. It is also very well ventilated with the fly up.

There are a few niggling things that I do not like about this tent. The gear loft or gear attic is not usable as-is. Because it hangs directly in the center of the tent, headroom is reduced by 6 to 8 inches. The attachment loops for the loft should be moved to the foot end of the tent, where it would be accessible but not intrude upon headroom.

The stays for the doors and fly openings are just plain goofy. Instead of a tapered plastic toggle, there's a section of cord with a cord-lock knotted onto the end. The cord-lock is very difficult to push through the opposite loop, to tie back the doors or the fly. They're doubly-hard to fumble with wearing gloves! After lengthy discussion with a floor salesman, our only guess is that the cord-locks are provided as "extra" gear replacements for some other Marmot gear. That's redundant - I don't need four extra cord-locks. At any rate, I replaced ours with toggles made from pieces of dowel rod.

The manufacturer needs to diagram out instructions for folding the fly. The plastic dowels that pop out the fly vents can tear through the fly when it is being folded and rolled up if they are not oriented correctly. Also, the fly needs to be folded such that the window stays flat and is not folded or creased back upon itself.

I like the storage pockets at the head of the tent, the appearance of the tent, and the layout. This tent shrugs off wind like nobody's business. There do not seem to be any stress points where the fabric is stretched especially tight, to cause premature wear.

This tent may be listed for backpacking, but at over five pounds, it's really not well-suited for that purpose unless you're breaking it up between two people. The fly is the heaviest single component.

Overall, quite content with the purchase. The details drag it down.

I bought this tent for me and my wife for our trip to volcanoes that are in the 15.000 ft range. On a recent trip it withstood every kind of tempest (strong winds, heavy rain, fog) and we were both comfortable and with lots of room inside.
The only drawback we experienced is the fact that there are not enough ground hog stakes. The set that comes with the tent is exactly eight stakes short, if you want to stake down the stormlines. I think for a tent in this price range a full set of stakes should be included. I gave it four stars because of that - but see below.

Addition: I contacted the MSR company regarding the missing stakes and they sent me a set of eight stakes completely free. NOW THAT IS GREAT SERVICE. So I changed the four stars to FIVE STARS, definitely well earned.

Hager House Tent - 3 Person by Big Agnes Review

Hager House Tent - 3 Person by Big Agnes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
All in all this seems to be a great product in terms of quality, design, and the thought of Mr. Hager at Big Agnus (yes I called them and found out that one of the owners designed this tent for himself, hence the name).I looked at REI, Northface, Nemo, SierraNev, etc and couldn't find anything else that fit my criteria:quality manufacturer, two doors, 3-person, privacy wall with mesh top, reasonable vestibule size, mechanically strong (for wind), rain fly with windows, etc.Nobody else makes it.Nada.

I bought this from an Amazon seller at well below retail ($229 free shipping), along with the footprint (always get a footprint, don't skimp). For a 3-person tent it's quite roomy for the two of us, which is why we bought it in the first place, along with the mesh on top to see the stars but the fabric goes high enough so that in a campground there's quite a bit of privacy. There's only a couple of tents out there like this and two of them are made by Big Agnus and none of the others really has this sort of shape (which I like) and other features. And yes, you really could put 3 people in here comfortably and with the fly on you get storage space at each end.

First thing, set it up in the backyard, took maybe 10 minutes which includes the fly.Real easy to set up, just one pole thingy that you hook into the four corners in the grommets on the tent (and on the footprint) and then snap the tent up to it.The fly velcro's to the pole frame; a couple of stakes if you want and you're done.

Another cool thing about this tent is that, since the fly velcros to the frame, you can prop it up as a shade.I REALLLLY like that idea since I'm often roasting on my trips. Also two doors...yeah!

The only cons I can say so far (but they're not really cons because it is what it is for design compromises to fit the market) is that I'll be using this backpacking and for me, it's a tad heavier than I am used to.But, the girl says she NEEDS the room so to get her to go I'll take the extra pound involved. Also, it would be real cool if the tent were about 3 or 4 inches longer if you're over 6 foot.As far as staying dry in a rainstorm I can't say yet but if I have any issues I'll visit this review and update it.

Marmot Eos 1-Person 3-Season Tent Review

Marmot Eos 1-Person 3-Season Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To be perfectly honest, this tent didn't see one day in the wilderness. I usually test out my tents in my living room before I take it to the great Alaskan outdoors. My logic is, if can't cut it in my living room, it won't cut it out there.

I spent a night in this tent in my living room. That was enough to tell me several things about the tent. One, I am 5'9" and half and this tent is too short for me. I felt my bare feet pressing against the back end of the tent as I adjusted so my head won't be touching the front end of the tent. No win situation unless you are bending your legs all night long.

Second, I had to go tomy bathroom couple of times that night. Getting out of the tent through the rain fly proves to be a major chore. The door lies around the upper middle of the tent, around the stomach/chest area in a side "U" shape. Not only do I had to climb out of my sleeping bag but work my upper body toward the middle of the tent so I can get out. I had to stretch out far to unzip the rainfly and flap it back half of it completely to climb out. If it was raining, it would had exposed the interior upper half of the tent inorder to get out.

Third, I used a Insul air mattress which I usually inflat outside the tent. When I try to stick it inside the tent, I had to fight to get it in. I had the same trouble getting it out so I deflated inside. (It would be hard to inflat that air mattress inside due to lack of space.)

Fourth, even with the guy lines (attached to furnitures), I had a pretty tight fit since the tent had an steep "A" shape form. Anyone slightly bigger then myself would feel pretty cramp. Dressing inside this tent requires some flexible limbs. For me, putting on my rain jacket (just for experiment) required some work. I think whoever designed this tent forgot that many backpackers uses inflated sleeping pads and with sleeping bags which adds couple of inches from ground. The sharp angles of the walls make this tent smaller then the reported dimensions. [It little roomy as long as your backside in on thehard ground (or in my case, carpet)!! Adding inches make it less so.]

On the good sides, the tent was easy to set-up, the material used appears to be first rate and I saw no weaknesses in the seals and seams. The rainfly covered the tent very well and provides a nice vestibule. All mesh canopy should provide good air movement. The weight is very lightweight as well. Under most conditions, you would probably need only two stakes. It looks like a first rate product outside of the design which appears to be suited for someone around 5'8" or smaller. I wasn't too impressed with the color choices but that may be subjective.

But after one night in the living room, I knew that this tent definitely will not work for me or anyone my size or bigger. No need to be a rocket scienist to figure that out. However, for a smaller person, this might be a great solo tent. Maybe such a person would write a field review on this tent as well. I wrote this review just to warn most average size American male backpackers who may be looking for a solo tent and read the dimensions which may be slightly misleading in practical application.

Marmot eliminates the struggle so you can set up your tent in a flash with the one pole system. A roomy vestibule stores more gear outside the tent while still keeping it protected from weather. The true bathtub floor provides weather protection, and also acts as a splashguard in stormy conditions.

Love the tent, very light, easy set up- 5 stars for the tent all the way. However after a little more research, I discovered that I paid about 75 dollars too much for this tent-and I'm not talking on just one website- at least 4 or 5.

Sierra Designs Hyperlight AST Tent 2-Person 3-Season Review

Sierra Designs Hyperlight AST Tent 2-Person 3-Season
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used this tent on a four month solo hiking trip from the Netherlands to Spain. The weather ranged from heavy rain to serious heat and I was using the tent (as opposed to a Gite or a Auberge) at least 60% of the time.

It was very easy to put up. I wasn't the most experienced camper in the world before this trip and the very first time I assembled the tent, it only took me 10 minutes. After I'd done it a few times, I could put it up in 5 minutes or less.

For one person, it was palatial, and when my partner was able to join me on weekends it was still comfortable for two with room left over to store the gear.

It never leaked, even on the rainiest and windiest nights, and the condensation was well within the bounds of reasonable.

Other hikers on the same route were jealous of how light it was, given how easy/large/comfortable it turned out to be. A really great compromise between weight and comfort-- I highly recommend it!

this tent, besides needing the seams sealed before use, rocks! (i got mine for $100 from someone who didn't figure this out). it pitches from the inside and is impervious to wind, rain, snow, and hordes of monkeys.

Product Description:
The Bibler Tempest is an ideal shelter for any wilderness traveler or mountaineer, built to outlast howling winds and torrential downpours while its contents ? you! ? stay dry & happy. With plenty of room for two, the Tempest's shape maximizes living space by uniting steep walls with a simple floor design. In fact, it stands nearly 4' tall (1.1m) at the peak. Equipped with two attached vestibules, you'll enjoy a 44sq. ft. floor area! This extra space is NOT at the expense of strength. Four Easton 7075-E9 poles bend naturally into the eaves of the tent and are locked into place with Twistlock Pole Ties, providing a strong, secure framework. Both vestibules are seam-taped and corner pockets are RF welded for maximum water protection. Best of all, every one of these features comes to you at a reasonable price compared to other tents of this caliber.

Trango 2 Tent - 2 Person by Mountain Hardwear Review

Trango 2 Tent - 2 Person by Mountain Hardwear

This tent is on par with the North Face VE-series, and is extremely well made.Attention to details for durability and long-life were made for this tent. All of the stitching is excellently done, the durability of every pull, tab, wall, zipper, etc, show quality and durability. This tent is built for extremely harsh, cold conditions. The poles are incredibly well engineered (if not, over-engineered), as well as the clip system. No sleeves to catch the poles, rip, or cause problems setting up the tent.Every part of the tent, except the floor and fly are made of rip-stop nylon. This is, by far, the highest quality tent that I own.I gladly put my life in this tent's hands, on Winter trips. It is a true expedition tent - it doesn't get harder core than this.

However....

There are a couple compromises with this tent.First, it's HEAVY.Almost 9 lbs, out of the store.By the time you add a tarp/ground-cloth, guy-lines, stake ties, and other stakes, this baby hits 10+ lbs in a flash.Secondly, the stakes that come with it are great for solid ice and varied solid ground types, but they aren't good for softer snow and other types of anchor. My primary use is soft, dry snow environments, which often need a bigger stake than these little pokers, to hold in high wind.SMC-snow stakes are a must on a few of the corners for the environments I plan to use the tent in.Finally, the ability to pitch the fly without the tent seems great, but I question the necessity.I wish they hadn't put all of the clips under the fly, because they add weight and catch on the poles, when the tent is set up.Cute feature, but by the time you're buying a tent like this one, chances are pretty good that you have other, lighter, and more situation-appropriate tents to do the job of the fly-only feature.

This tent retains heat quite well, so I can't imagine using it in any season or environment, other than frozen.Just in the house, while prepping it for use, it was about 10 degrees F higher than the house temp, and that's without the fly.Body heat goes a long way. This tent would be severe overkill for warmer environments, unless really high winds or sustained, drenching rains were anticipated.

Jupiters Cabin Tent - 4 Person by Big Agnes

I purchased the BA Jupiter's Cabin for about $235 from HumbleOutdoors, it came with a free BA Footprint, and free shipping.

The Jupiter's Cabin is a four person,3 season, free standing, car camping tent. I use it for deluxe accommodations for two.. heck it's car camping! I can change clothes standing up, and the 14 sq. ft vestibule is great for my early morning coffee prep and gritty shoes. For the money, this is a great classic tent. I choose brands that have spare parts available, Big Agnes fits the bill.

With this 2 man tent you don't need 2 tents: one for winter and one for the tropics.I was worried before I purchased about condensation on a single wall tent but it turns out this is no problem.Ventillation is excellent - summer or winter!I use it as a one man tent (it's light enough!) and it is sooo roomy and bright. When the weather is fine and warm just unzip both doors for a 6 billion star view.It is unlike any tent I have ever owned.Follow instructions for setting up and it is then easy. It's probably not up to full on winter gales when pitched in stupid places but for anything else it covers it all - and with style!

Product Description:
This season Bibler introduces a new well-ventilated, two-door version of the infamous four-season Ahwahnee2. Two full side doors provide for an open-air feeling, while increasing both ventilation and ease of exit and entry?without increasing the retail price. Wide awnings cover each door while the Ahwahnee's low profile design sheds both wind and weather. This is a great tent for anyone who plans to travel across multiple climates?from the desert to high alpine environments.
