The Screenhouse, which offers 99 square feet of interior space, offers two large mesh doors and four mesh windows, so you can see out in every direction while enjoying your grilled fish. In addition, the Screenhouse stands up to gusts and bumps from passersby thanks to its DA17 pre-bent aluminum poles. Designed by DAC specifically for tents, the DA17 poles are stiffer, stronger, and lighter than fiberglass poles, with a cost that's only slightly higher. And Kelty knows that zipper pulls can be jingly when the wind is blowing, which is why it integrated noiseless zipper pulls into the Screenhouse design. Other features include NiteIze Figure 9 guyline adjusters, which make it easy to tense the rope and release the tension (no more tying, adjusting, and untying knots); clip-sleeve construction, which helps increase the overall strength of the tent; pull-down shades for people who want a bit of privacy; and taped seams for added durability.

Kelty Deluxe Carport Review

(More customer reviews)I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey that is big enough for my wife and I to sleep in while camping, but not big enough to store all our camping gear at the same time.So, when I came across the Carport Deluxe in a catalog I knew I had found the answer to our problem.It was *perfect* on our first outing.At night we'd keep it down with all our gear inside the shelter and there was still tons of room (this thing is HUGE) for changing, or reading, or eating dinner, etc.During the day we'd put it up as an awning and it was great for shade (once again, it is much bigger than we expected, but that is a *good* thing).We've also used it for tailgate parties at Anaheim Stadium, and it can be used separate from the van as a shelter at the beach.It has performed perfectly for it's purpose.

(More customer reviews)I have been converted to hammock camping. The rainfly works well. Setup and takedown is quick and easy. Materials and workmanship are excellent. No more carrying a tent and sleep pad and in summer, no sleeping bag, just a liner. The snakeskins are a good addition as they speed setup and takedown and packing.

MSR Zing Tarp Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased the Zing and also own an MSR Outfitter Wing tarp. The design for both is essentially identical. The Zing is made of lighter weight ripstop material, and that makes it both lighter but also much more compact when stored. The Outfitter Wing is very heavy duty, and the fabric is opaque. That's bound to last longer for commercial users. But the MSR Zing is an excellent compromise between strength and portability. The Zing cloth is translucent, with a pleasant amber color. It's opaque enough to provide useful shade, but transmits enough light to be more cheery on overcast days.

The shape is versatile, relatively easy to pitch, and can be very wind-resistant depending on how you orient it and set up the guylines. Consider getting two additional poles. This tarp sets up really well with four poles providing excellent stand-up head clearance. The concatenary curves allow for smooth tensioning without wrinkles or sags that hold rainwater or flap noisly in the wind.

I was disappointed that the cord guylines provided are not reflectorized. Our Oufitter Wing has reflective cords that are essential to safe navigation around camp after dark. I've had to order reflective cording, and that's a signficant expense to incur on an already expensive product. I'm tempted to downgrade my rating to four stars, but I bought this at a discount from the Amazon warehouse, so I'll be generous.

For accessory poles, I recommend Kelty's Noah's Staff or Noah's poles. The "staff" is not adjustable but these poles are slimmer and lighter in keeping with the Zing's lighter weight. The MSR wing tarps and vastly superior to Kelty's Noah's tarps, so just go for the Kelty poles.

(More customer reviews)This tent is on par with the North Face VE-series, and is extremely well made.Attention to details for durability and long-life were made for this tent.All of the stitching is excellently done, the durability of every pull, tab, wall, zipper, etc, show quality and durability.This tent is built for extremely harsh, cold conditions.The poles are incredibly well engineered (if not, over-engineered), as well as the clip system.No sleeves to catch the poles, rip, or cause problems setting up the tent.Every part of the tent, except the floor and fly are made of rip-stop nylon.This is, by far, the highest quality tent that I own.I gladly put my life in this tent's hands, on Winter trips.It is a true expedition tent - it doesn't get harder core than this.

However....

There are a couple compromises with this tent.First, it's HEAVY.Almost 9 lbs, out of the store.By the time you add a tarp/ground-cloth, guy-lines, stake ties, and other stakes, this baby hits 10+ lbs in a flash.Secondly, the stakes that come with it are great for solid ice and varied solid ground types, but they aren't good for softer snow and other types of anchor.My primary use is soft, dry snow environments, which often need a bigger stake than these little pokers, to hold in high wind.SMC-snow stakes are a must on a few of the corners for the environments I plan to use the tent in.Finally, the ability to pitch the fly without the tent seems great, but I question the necessity.I wish they hadn't put all of the clips under the fly, because they add weight and catch on the poles, when the tent is set up.Cute feature, but by the time you're buying a tent like this one, chances are pretty good that you have other, lighter, and more situation-appropriate tents to do the job of the fly-only feature.

This tent retains heat quite well, so I can't imagine using it in any season or environment, other than frozen.Just in the house, while prepping it for use, it was about 10 degrees F higher than the house temp, and that's without the fly.Body heat goes a long way.This tent would be severe overkill for warmer environments, unless really high winds or sustained, drenching rains were anticipated.

(More customer reviews)After hearing nothing about the tent order for 19 days I emailed the seller and did not hear back, however, when I rated them for their lack of response, they responded very quickly.I never heard anything from Fedex or the seller, like Melissa suggests.I ordered the tent on April 23rd and did not have it May 15, 2009. Sorry to say I cannot rate the tent, just the lack of service and rude emails from the seller.The seller's second email was venomous. Melissa wrote at the review site that my feedback was "ridiculous".I didn't know that shopping would end up in insults toward me. Melissa's first response is next:

Hi Penny -- Why not give us time to respond before leaving such rude feedback?

Your tent was returned to us by Fedex as refused by recipient.I am assuming they tried to deliver it to a wrong address.Our apologies.

I am issuing you a full refund because you have already left us bad feedback and when that happens, the transaction is considered closed.

If you will kindly consider removing the feedback, it would be very appreciated.

(More customer reviews)This screen house is wonderful if at times you want to keep out the rain, wind, or sunlight. All sides have drop curtains so you can raise, lower whichever ones you want. Set up was easy and one person could do it. The product quality is excellent....you get what you pay for!! Poles are sturdy.Poles to use a curtain as an awning are included. My only fault is that guy ropes to tie the tent down are not included....a mystery because it certainly would not be a big added expense. The best price was at Amazon...more than 100 bucks saved!

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. (More customer reviews)I purchased this product to replace a cheaper screen tent that lasted 4 years at our vacation home before the fabric began tearing.The better fabric in this tent was the reason we purchased it.It did not have additional support lines as the other one did. As we did with the other one we planned to leave it up for the season.We came up the following weekend and it had collapsed destroying two of the four poles.
